Hands-on, with a crew behind him

Joseph Pendergraft runs Mr Joe's Handyman Services out of Boyd, Texas. It is a small operation on purpose: the person who answers the phone is the person who shows up, and the person who does the work.

Behind that is a crew of two to four, a truck, and the equipment to match — so the work does not stop at the small stuff. A fence line, a floor, a concrete footing, a shelter going up: it all gets taken on with the same hands-on approach as a sticking door.

The jobs are the ones that never quite rate a contractor. A door that sticks, a piece of trim that never got finished, a light fixture sitting in its box since spring, a hole where a doorknob hit the wall. Individually they are small. As a list, they are what makes a house feel unfinished — and they are the kind of thing that is genuinely hard to get somebody out for.

Most anything residential and commercial is fair game. Homeowners work through the fridge list. Landlords get a unit turned over on a deadline, with photos of what was done so they do not have to drive out and look. Local businesses hand over the running list that no one on staff has time for.

What you can count on is simple. A straight quote before anything starts. A promised day that is kept. A clean site at the end of it, with the old parts taken away. And an honest word when a job needs somebody licensed — before it gets opened up, not after.
